TAHMEF, New Vacancies Opportunities – December 2023
Tanzania Health & Medical Education Foundation (TAHMEF) We are a Non-profit, Non-governmental Organization on a mission to bridge socio-economic gaps that limit quality healthcare accessibility through leveraging digital solutions. Founded in Tanzania, Our work has served Tanzanians in informal sectors, the rural-poor and indigenous communities since 2015, promoting health equity through provision of health education, health screening and supporting families’ enrollment in affordable health coverage schemes. Nia is a digital pay-as-you-go wallet enabling health insurance affordability among Tanzanians in informal sectors. Tanzania’s health insurance coverage remains low, at about 34 percent. As a result, the majority of the population, especially those in informal sectors, rely on the direct cash payment (out of pocket payment) system when they want to access health services, which in most cases impose huge financial risks and exacerbate poverty. NIA is built to bridge this gap. We conducted a survey accessing factors that limit health insurance affordability among 150+ Small to Medium sized entrepreneurs (Informal sector) and the leading factor among this group was the all-at-once high costs that are associated with majority health insurance schemes. In 2020, we mobilized a small group of Tanzanians in informal sectors to explore effective ways to bridge this gap, and that is how our solution NIA came about.
