The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) is an international non-governmental organization that is dedicated to conservation and protection of the natural world. It was founded in 1961 and operates in more than 100 countries, with a mission to conserve nature and reduce the most pressing threats to the diversity of life on Earth. WWF’s work focuses on six major areas: forests, oceans, freshwater, wildlife, food, and climate. Their conservation efforts include preserving endangered species, protecting habitats and ecosystems, promoting sustainable use of natural resources, and advocating for policies that support conservation. Some of the initiatives and campaigns that WWF has launched include the Earth Hour campaign, which encourages people to switch off their lights for one hour to raise awareness about climate change; the Living Planet Report, which tracks the health of the planet’s ecosystems and biodiversity; and the Global Forest & Trade Network, which promotes responsible forest management and trade practices. WWF also works with businesses, governments, and local communities to find solutions that balance human needs with the protection of the environment. They are funded through donations from individuals, corporations, and governments, and they rely on the support of volunteers and activists to achieve their goals.
